In the Welcome page, the following should have a link:
Window > Open Perspective > Java
This didn't make sense in 1.0 since it opened a new page, hiding the welcome 
page.  Since we now share editors across perspectives, we should provide a 
link here.

In order to do this, we need an OpenJavaPerspective action in JDT UI which we 
can refer to from the welcome.xml.

Please let me know when this has been added so I can update the welcome.xml.

Waiting on new welcome page story.  The JDT items have been removed from the 
platform's welcome.xml.

I can run my workspace again. 

Kevin - what is the easiest way to test the JDT welcome page. I only get the 
welcome page of the platform in Help>Welcome...

You need to workabound a bug 18268 involving the "$nl$" prefix. Temporarily 
change your about.ini to contain

welcomePage=welcome.xml

(rather than welcomePage=$nl$/welcome.xml)

Verified. Has a link to the Java Perspective now - but opens a new Window with 
the Java Perspective - I thinks thet's ok.

It should only open a new window if that is your preference for opening 
perspectives.  Which API is being used to open the perspective?
Should use the one on IWorkbench.
E.g. workbench.showPerspective(<JDT_PERSP_ID>, currentWindow, null)

Opens the perspective in new window no matter what the setting is. Reopening.
