Description
Eugene Kuleshov
Jeff, reassigning to you in case you want to round out this functionality. However, over the next couple of weeks we should clean up your list to ensure it only contains stuff that you are interested in looking at now that the summer of code is over. Jeff: I assume we should take this off your list? Rob: it looks like this functionality may be broken? I just got the following message with no stack trace: "Search failed. Please see details below." Please investigate before EclipseCon. *** Bug 192723 has been marked as a duplicate of this bug. *** Created attachment 71510 [details]
Adds related bugs section (moves search for duplicates functionality)

The patch adds a related bugs section to new bug editors and editors for existing bugs. It places the search for duplicates functionality into that section. Manually tested for bugzilla only. May I ask why not to use Search view for that? I'm not sure if I understand the suggestion. The patch takes the combo box selection for duplicate detectors and the button for searching for duplicates out of the actions area of a new bug editor and puts it in a section (Related Bugs) that could (but isn't now) be used also for links to blocking bugs, determine duplicates, etc. Maybe there is a better way than introducing a new section? (If no duplicate detectors are available, a label indicating that is displayed instead of the combo/button.) When a search is conducted the results are shown in the Search (Results) view. Is the suggestion to augment Task search? Or did it just sound that the search for duplicates reulsts was now showing up in the editor? One feature (ahhhh bug) of the current patch is that a search for duplicates from an existing bug with a stack trace returns that bug as a potential duplicate (which could be filtered out from display). (In reply to comment #9) Gail, sorry I misunderstood your description which sounded like search results will appear in the newly introduced section. Though I am still not sure if this stuff does justify for a separate section, because even collapsed section increases task editor scrolling and it is already quite bad. Gail: sorry, we let the patch sit too long and it has conflicts. Could you try to synchronize, update everything (hopefully you won't see much red) and recreate? Sure. I'll try to submit a new one later today. Do you also want the list of already noted duplicates/blocking moved to this section? (If so , I can try to do that too but perhaps its better to get feedback on the new section first.) Created attachment 71584 [details]

This looks great and will be very useful when we start showing more relationships. Patch applied. The only changes I made is to only expand the section for a new task editor and to call the section "Related Tasks" since this is available to non-Bugzilla editors. For existing tasks we should probably look for stack traces in the comments and not only in the description? Or we can wait to see if anyone asks for that :) |
