Description John Cortell CLA 2006-08-14 15:23:28 EDT
Currently, the details pane in the Registers, Variables and Expressions view is an ISourceViewer. We would like to populate the pane with GUI-rich content via the details pane extension point. We are working on a contribution that will allow the pane to work as a more general canvas--as a composite, with special handling to continue support for having an ISourceViewer tenant.

Any concerns with the feature request and/or the proposed approach?

One thing to consider is that the workbench has (in the past) had a plan item to support nested components. This will allow for proper action contribution, etc., from standard extension points. I'm not sure if it will be on the 3.3 plan yet (still waiting to see). However, we want to avoid doing "plumbing" work/API that should be in the workbench layer.

Fair enough. We'll implement this as a private "hack" in our internal version of the 3.2 platform and defer a permanent solution/contribution until the right workbench infrastructure is in place.
