Description Martin Aeschlimann CLA 2006-06-21 03:48:27 EDT
When you try to enter a bug against TPTP (https://bugs.eclipse.org/bugs/enter_bug.cgi?classification=TPTP), you are forced to choose one of over 70 components with names I'm not sure of what they mean. As a bug reporter I want to be sure that the bug goes to a maintained place.

Some ideas for solutions I had:
- Allow filing bugs with no component specified. Bugzilla would have to know the 'Default' component for each product, where it would forward this requests
- The Bugzilla 'Enter Bug' form could select a component by default
- Or we ask all product to simpify and clarify they component names, by for example introducing a 'Incoming' component.

I think that projects can help by providing a general "Inbox" component. But this would also require some additional maintenance attention by the developers. However, 70 components is way too much. You can expect bug reports filled correctly by end users with so many components to choose from.

I'll assign this Bug to Hubert, who can then tell me what to do.

I believe TPTP recently reorganized its Bugzilla products and components. Can we close this as fixed?
Comment 4 Martin Aeschlimann CLA 2007-02-13 04:31:56 EST
There are now lots of 'products' with good names. The 'components' inside the products are still cryptic and technical, and I'm still forced to choose one.

It would be nice if the input form has a default selection on a component.

So it's better. Close if you want.
