Description Julien Canches CLA 2006-06-19 09:36:10 EDT
Currently the location model and the location editor can be extended with the notion of "property group", each property group containing a set of properties that are related to a special feature of the location.
As of today, there are two kinds of property groups that have been defined in TPTP: the "general property group" (for specifying root directory on the target, for instance), and the "workbench property group" (used by the JUnit plugin tests to define eclipse-specific properties).

The user experience is currently not consistent:
- there is only one location editor
- there are two (and potentially more) location wizards (one for each property group)
- there is no possibility to create a location with two or more property groups
- once a location has been created, it not possible to invoke a wizard to add a new property group to an existing location

Suggestions to improve this situation:
- have only one location editor and one new location wizard
- for each property group, allow to define a specific new wizard
- in the new location wizard, allow to choose which property group are to be created along with the location
- integrate the required new property group wizards in the new location wizard
- add the possibility to add a new property group to an existing location by invoking the new property group wizard from the location editor.

Reassign to Julien.
Comment 3 Paul Slauenwhite CLA 2007-01-16 10:26:11 EST
Reassigning to the component leads to triage for 4.4.
Comment 4 Paul Slauenwhite CLA 2007-01-26 08:32:44 EST
Targeting to future since cannot be contained in 4.4.
Comment 5 Paul Slauenwhite CLA 2007-01-26 09:01:24 EST
As discussed on this week's Test Project call (January 22, 2007), the Test Project will focus on existing P1 - P2/Blocker - Major and P1/Normal and test creation/automation defects (omitting defects dependant on outstanding features) in TPTP 4.4. All other Test Project defects have been targeted to future.

If this defect has been targeted to future and you/originator feel it should be completed in 4.4, please provide the necessary reason as a reply to this comment or a post to the Test Project mailing list (tptp-test-tooling-dev@eclipse.org). We will collectively triage and assess our resources to determine a case-by-case decision.
Comment 6 Paul Slauenwhite CLA 2007-01-26 09:03:41 EST
Correction: The Test Project mailing list is tptp-testing-tools-dev@eclipse.org.

In addition:

[201095]

Remove the Eclipse Workbench Properties tab from the Location editor.

Due to reuse, the Location and Workbench Location editors both contain an
Eclipse Workbench Properties tab. For plain Locations, these properties are
not relevant and the tab should be removed to eliminate confusion. The
alternative is to merge Locations and Workbench Locations.

Using 4.5-200805130100 build, after create a new location, then go to 'Eclipse
Workbench Properties' tab, the text frame is missing in 'Workspace
Data'--'Workspace location'
the frame will come back after switch in tabs and files by some ways...

As of TPTP 4.6.0, TPTP is in maintenance mode and focusing on improving quality by resolving relevant defects and increasing test coverage through test creation, automation, Build Verification Tests (BVTs), and expanded run-time execution. Since this defect is more than 2 years old, it may be no longer relevant. As part of the TPTP Bugzilla housecleaning process (see http://wiki.eclipse.org/Bugzilla_Housecleaning_Processes), this defect is resolved as WONTFIX. If this defect is still relevant and reproducible in the latest TPTP release (http://www.eclipse.org/tptp/home/downloads/), please re-open.
