Description
Elias Balasis
It's an interesting idea, given that GWT already has a java based runtime used for debugging. It may be possible to make use of that for the screen scraping that's necessary to make the editor image. Unfortunately I believe that part of the GWT code isn't open source. This is being marked as "won't fix" as part of a bugzilla clean up, to remove very old enhancement requests .... since if it hasn't been done by now, there's near zero chance it every will be. If I have mistakenly closed a bug that is still very much a current issue, please accept my apologies and re-open and clarify what the current issue it. To summarize, some time ago (when I initially created this bug), I had the idea to support GWT (Google Web Toolkit) tooling inside Eclipse environment as a subproject of WTP project making use of the VE extensibility features to facilitate GWT widget graphical editing and code generation. So I created a project named GWT4WTP but I had so many difficulties and lack of knowledge on JDT, WTP and VE internals that I was soon forced to abandon it. Unfortunately, the only thing that I managed to implement is a very small project wizard that creates an eclipse project with a basic GWT folder/files structure based on a user supplied project name. Project page on sourceforge and javaforge is expected to be active still. Since then a few of commercial tools have matured (GWT designer from instantiations at www.instantiations.com and VistaFei from WirelexSoft at www.wirelexsoft.com to name a few) but the dream is still alive and provided that the Eclipse foundation considers the idea interesting I would be more than happy to participate and contribute in any way I can. concerning comment #1: GWT has recently become open source but even if it hadn't the custom widget editing and the related code generation I believe can be supported by related VE extensibility mechanisms. ok, thanks Elias. I'll mark as "helpwanted" then, as no one on core team plans to work on it ... but, if you or others do, that's fine. This does seem sort of complicated, in the sense of having lots of possiblilies to choose from, but doubt either VE or JEM is the right component. Do your ideas fit in with the ATF project? Moving to VE, as this is a VE request. Eclipse tooling for GWT has matured throughout the years. Closing... |
