Bug 142728

Summary: [Watch/Edit] CVS synchronize operation marks file as 'edited'
Product: [Eclipse Project] Platform Reporter: Hendrik Ebel <caapuu>
Component: CVSAssignee: platform-cvs-inbox <platform-cvs-inbox>
Status: CLOSED WONTFIX QA Contact:
Severity: normal
Priority: P5 Keywords: helpwanted
Version: 3.2
Target Milestone: ---
Hardware: PC
OS: Windows XP
Whiteboard: stalebug

Description Hendrik Ebel CLA 2006-05-19 08:24:26 EDT
specialized case of bug ( https://bugs.eclipse.org/bugs/show_bug.cgi?id=138902 )
and detected in RC4

Our project is no set to "enable watch/edit for this projec". Only a few binary
files are set to watch/edit on CVS. If synchronization is done either with
override+update or update, the source is marked as 'edited'. If checkout file
e.g. with replace latest from head the file is not set 'edited' as expected.

As a workaround, you can disable the model-based synchronizations. The preference is the Team>CVS>Synchronize/Comapre>Allow models to participate in synchronizations.

I have updated the FAQ to describe the above workaround and to capture other shortcomings of Watch/Edit in Eclise. Hre is a link:

http://wiki.eclipse.org/index.php/CVS_FAQ#Does_Eclipse_support_Watch.2FEdit.3F

This is all we plane to do for 3.3 but patches are welcome.

This bug hasn't had any activity in quite some time. Maybe the problem got resolved, was a duplicate of something else, or became less pressing for some reason - or maybe it's still relevant but just hasn't been looked at yet.

If you have further information on the current state of the bug, please add it. The information can be, for example, that the problem still occurs, that you still want the feature, that more information is needed, or that the bug is (for whatever reason) no longer relevant.
