If I run eclipse from the command line on OS X - "/Applications/eclipse/eclipse", it doesn't seem to use any of the settings from "/Applications/eclipse/Eclipse.app/Contents/MacOS/eclipse.ini" - the UI actually looks different becuase its using different fonts, and the max heap is lower too.

Running by double clicking in Finder does pick them up, and I can manually pass them in on the command line, but shouldn't a no arg command line also use them automatically?

eclipse 3.2RC2 on os X 10.4.6 java 1.4.2_09

I have never tried this. Please test it on the Mac in the lab. I won't be able to get to it today.

This is fixed in the new launcher.
I ran using the eclipse shortcut in the root and got the following in my configuration:
eclipse.vmargs=-Xdock:icon=../Resources/Eclipse.icns
-XstartOnFirstThread
-Xbootclasspath/p:../../../plugins/org.eclipse.jdt.debug_3.2.100.v20070220/jdi.jar

most which comes from the ini file.
