Description Wendell Beckwith CLA 2006-03-08 08:02:06 EST
I recent updated eclipse 3.2M5a using the following procedure:

1. Extract eclipse to a new directory, d:/dev/eclipse.
2. Create 2 new directories, wtp-plugins and eclipse-plugins, in d:/dev.
3. Add a links folder to the d:/dev/eclipse folder.
4. Create wtp-plugins.link and eclipse-plugins.link files in the d:/dev/eclipse/links folder that each contain the path to thier respective plugin directories.
5. Startup eclipse and create an update site to install the Subclipse (http://subclipse.tigris.org/update_1.0.x) plugin and/or the Subversive (http://www.polarion.org/download/p_subversive/update-site/) plugin. NOTE: The plugin(s) should be saved to d:/dev/eclipse-plugins.
6. Configure a Subversion repository in either plugin and checkout a project.

At this point you will be able to right click on a project and get the Team > Subversion Plugn menu items.

7. Extract the WTP emf-sdo-xsd-SDK-2.2.0M5.zip, GEF-SDK-3.2M5.zip and JEM-SDK-1.2M2.zip zip files to the d:/dev/wtp-plugins.

Restart eclipse and notice again that you can right click on the project previously checked out and get the Team > Subversion menu items.

8. Extract the	wtp-sdk-S-1.5M5-200603022222.zip zip file to the d:/dev/wtp-plugins.

Restart eclipse and notice now that you can right click on the project previously checked out and only get the Team > Share Project and Team > Apply Patch menu items.

This is a serios bug. It was originally noticed with Subclipse and after a complete reinstall and a switch to the Subversive plugin it was narrowed down that it always happens with WTP installed.

Sounds nasty. FYI, some of us use subclipse for our work on Apache so this bug is near and dear to our hearts. I'll ask Lawrence to investigate since he uses subclipse.

It would be greatly appreciated if a dev could comment on this as I have been usuccessful in getting wtp and subclipse to work. Or rather subclipse works perfectly right up and until I install the wtp plugins. Subclipse also works if I simply disable the J2EE Standard Tools.

Please also see Bug 130571. It contains some additional information on the problem.
Comment 4 Wendell Beckwith CLA 2006-03-10 08:33:09 EST
Another user on the subclipse dev list had the following to add:

I hit this same issue when installing the latest WTP milestone build. Removing WTP and starting Eclipse with -clean (because it *totally* hosed my workspace) made everything better. It seems to be either a WTP issue or an eclipse issue. Removing the persistent property filter from the popupMenus extension 'fixed' the problem. Since the actions come back when webtools is uninstalled, the property *is* there but something in WTP is causing the tester to fail.

And I have found a path that allows it to work until a restart of eclipse:

1. Start eclipse with wtp and subclipse installed. The IDE will function (badly) as described in this bug report.
2. Got to Help > Software Updates > Manage Configuration and disable the J2EE Tooling for WTP.
3. Allow eclipse to restart the IDE and notice that subclipse menu items are now available when right clinking on a project and selecting the team menu.
4. Go back to Manage Configurations and enable JST buy only Apply the changes, don't allow a restart.

At this point everything works correctly until a restart of eclipse. WTP should really be moving on this as this is a serious issue.
