Description
Glenn Remar
This is functionality that I miss from using Visual Slickedit. I believe the concept of line number is not generic enough to be part of the workbench's concept of an editor. This is likely support that would need to be provided by Platform/Text. We don't plan to do this on reopening an editor but when restarting Eclipse (see bug 124615). *** This bug has been marked as a duplicate of 124615 *** *** Bug 216163 has been marked as a duplicate of this bug. *** Since 2006 when comment #3 was entered, I think I saw that the platform text DOES now include the concept of line numbers. If that is correct, could you please add this functionality now? As I said in bug 216163, there is already an open source free plugin available that does this. It would be good if the concept can be accomplished from the core eclipse platform itself. Daniel - for comment #3, I dont think this is a duplicate of bug 124615. That one deals with the ACTIVE editor being chosen when the workbench was closed. The functionality that is being requested in this bug is to remember the line and character position of the cursor and restore that when an editor is opened or reopened (both within the same runtime session or on a later run). Sorry, but no plans to do this. Hi, Note: this is resolved as duplicate bug 124615 but, as state before, this is not a duplicate. That's why I comment here, and not under bug 124615. Several years passed, maybe you could reconsider adding this functionality to Eclipse? Perhaps for text editors only (the ones governed by "Text Editors" preferences section)? I have a habit of closing the editor tabs when there are too many, but then I have to search my position in those files when i return (reopen). (In reply to Piotr Findeisen from comment #8) > Hi, > > Note: this is resolved as duplicate bug 124615 but, as state before, this is > not a duplicate. Correct. > Several years passed, maybe you could reconsider adding this functionality > to Eclipse? No one will work on this. If someone wants to provide a solution, we can reopen the bug. |
