Tools which invoke the EAR import operation need an option to prevent the java source compilation when importing an EAR or EJB-JAR.

This is to prevent the overwriting of pre-existing class files in an EAR or EJB-JAR archive which in some circumstances need to be preserved.

You can do this by disabling the Project > Build Automatically option in the workbench. 

I am not aware of a way to tell a specific Java project to not participate in the automatic build. If there is such need, the issue should be addressed to the JDT project.
