I think this is important too. The shots should be from all the different platforms and some variation in the perspectives of course. Created attachment 1888 [details]

I very agree with you. The first thing I search when I gone on www.eclipse.org was some screenshots. I have some friends which never download Eclipse because they prefer to see what they will have before to download and install it. Every free software has a web site with screenshots, except Eclipse. It will be a very good publicity for the project if the link is on the home page. Well, screenshots are in the "New and worth... features" :-) I agree. There should be a screenshots section. *** Bug 90821 has been marked as a duplicate of this bug. *** the screenshot website is already there (rudimentary as it is), it's just not linked anywhere http://www.eclipse.org/screenshots/ Those are awful, and old. I think it's really bad that there're no screenshots on the website. Is it on any sort of plan to put some up? Wayne, can we look into getting some screenshots/screencasts up for Phoenix 1.1? Can do. It would be interesting to get the community to take some screenshots that represent Eclipse In Action on various platforms. We could also define categories - JDT, Ant, Webtools, etc. Users could post their screenshots here, in this bug, and we could publish the best ones. If we go this route, would need some posting guidelines (ie, plugin restrictions, code on the screenshot, etc). Just a suggestion.. D. Looking at screenshots people have sent me over the years, I'd be very skeptical the quality would be good enough on community supplied screenshots. It's just hard to get consistently good screenshots and everybody has a different idea of what "good" means. Ask anybody who's worked on a multi-author book. Where are the screenshots in CVS? I don't believe they're in CVS. http://www.eclipse.org/screenshots/ How do we feel about replacing screen shots with screen cams? I have a bunch of screen cams at http://www.eclipse.org/callisto/java.php. Or do we really want screen shots? Four is not what I'd call 'a bunch'. Screencasts are nice but they're harder to make than screenshots. Given that the screenshots (like http://www.eclipse.org/screenshots/fullscreenXP/JavaPerspective.gif) can't be kept up to date, why do you think screencasts would? Screencasts require users to click and wait to showcase the exciting stuff. Consider: http://www.mozilla.com/thunderbird/ http://kde.org/ -> screenshots to the left After much stalling, I have updated the screenshots page. Please see http://www.eclipse.org/screenshots Since I only have access to Windows XP and Linux, the screenshots are on those platforms only. I may replace some of the Win XP shots with some GTK ones (in addition to the KDE ones). I added a couple that weren't previously there, including "Compare with Local History", "Java Debugging", and "Visual Editor". I'd love it if somebody could contribute some images for other platforms, especially the Mac. (In reply to comment #8) > the screenshot website is already there (rudimentary as it is), it's just not > linked anywhere Any thoughts on where they should be linked from? The KDE ones look funny, as if they were improperly scaled. You need a lab with each major platform represented so you can do stuff like this consistently, rather than relying on random contributions. (In reply to comment #22) > The KDE ones look funny, as if they were improperly scaled. Agreed. I wanted to put something there that wasn't Windows XP. This was the best that I could do with what I have available. I'll see if I can get something better from my Fedora installation. > You need a lab with each major platform represented so you can do stuff like > this consistently, rather than relying on random contributions. Actually, I'm looking for contributions of a less random kind. If I can't manage to get anybody to volunteer some good screen shots, I'll go bother Kim, Ward, or some other Mac-o-phile. In the meantime, I'll get some better Linux shots myself. I'm marking this bug as fixed since I think the original requirement has been satisfied. I will continue to look for and add new screen shots on an ongoing basis. Created attachment 51669 [details]
Mac screenshot showing AJDT
Wayne,
Here is a Mac screenshot, showing an aspect being editing with AJDT, the AspectJ Development Tools
Did you want a Windows Vista screenshot? There's an old one at: https://bugs.eclipse.org/bugs/attachment.cgi?id=28571 (In reply to comment #26) > Did you want a Windows Vista screenshot? > There's an old one at: https://bugs.eclipse.org/bugs/attachment.cgi?id=28571 > Added.
