Today the product editor allows users to pick the location of the ico files in any project. However PDE build is not able to support this which creates problems while exporting a product since the launcher does not get branded.
Could you please change the editor such that icons can only come from the same project than the one containing the .product file?

This bug presumes that the branding errors come from the fact that the ico and bmp files are not stored in the same project as the .product file. But as some people, including me, reported in bug #102028 this is not the case. Some of us have the image files in the same project as the .product file and the branding error still occurs.
