Bug 117877

Summary: Opening files from stack trace takes more than 10 seconds
Product: [Eclipse Project] JDT Reporter: Missing name <iyers>
Component: DebugAssignee: JDT-Debug-Inbox <jdt-debug-inbox>
Status: RESOLVED DUPLICATE QA Contact:
Severity: normal
Priority: P3
Version: 3.2
Target Milestone: ---
Hardware: PC
OS: Windows XP
Whiteboard:

Description Missing name CLA 2005-11-24 05:49:38 EST
When you get a stack dump in the console.
Selecting the hyperlinked "file and line no" responds after:

8 to 13 secs if the file is already open in the editor
16 to 30 secs if the file is not open in the editor.

It is faster to manually Open Type>type file name>open and jump to line no. (6 sec)

This is on a "i686 Pentium III (katmai) 450 Mhz, 340MB and standard hard disk 5200rpm".

There was no swapping when I use Eclipse. Overall Eclipse performance (build, run, debug) is good.

Can we improve this - Is this a bug or an enhancment ?

I also find that hyperlinks from stack traces in "java stack trace" console respond well if the file is already open in the editor. If it is not, the response is slow (equal to what I reported earlier).

This is a very annoying bug - we need an urgent fix for this.
Bug 112774 has been around since 3.0. Any chance of this getting fixed in 3.2 ?

Cheers and good will.
