Browser like Firefox and Opera use middle button to click anywhere on the tab to 
close the window, while in Eclipse we can only click on the "X".
I wonder if we could provide feature like that.

This sounds similar to bug 69204. But I agree that this feature is better being blocked by an assigned P4 bug than becoming a dup of a wontfix ;-)

Looks like this has been implemented for I20071127-0800 (or does the dependency on bug 47099 mean this should be configurable?).
