Description Oyvind Harboe CLA 2005-10-15 06:36:48 EDT
I'd like to see the CVS functionality made accessible to a broader
audience(non-programmers).

For novice users of CVS treating files as "binary" is the safe choice.

I.e. if they don't know what the ramifications are of choosing binary vs. text
for CVS, they should choose binary.

Possible action: add a "Recommended" text to the binary vs. text requester.

We used to just default all unkown types to binary because it was safer. Now
we make binary the default when prompting for the file types so the user has
to take an explicit step to make a file ASCII. I think most users would be
annoyed if you prompted them with an "Are you sure" message whenever they
choose ASCII (even if it did have a don't show me this again). I guess we
could add a "Recommend" button to the dialog that would peek into the files to
determine the type. Such a feature would need to be 100% correct and I don't
known it this is possible.
