Bug 111702

Summary: [Import/Export] Validation of file names sometimes hangs 2-3 seconds on each key press

Description Boris Bokowski CLA 2005-10-05 17:48:07 EDT
If you enter a network file name (e.g. //someserver/directory/file) as the
target JAR file name on the JAR export wizard page, validation takes forever if
the server name does not exist. Even for existing servers, if you type their
name, you get the delay for every key press until the server name is complete.

I have fixed this for the dialog where you create a linked resource, but we
should fix it for other cases too. The original bug was:
Bug 90825 [LinkedResources] Typing external path for folder link can be very slow

This applies to several pages in the Import/Export wizard, and potentially other
cases where we validate paths to external files or directories.

*** Bug 111832 has been marked as a duplicate of this bug. ***
Comment 2 Boris Bokowski CLA 2005-10-06 15:52:04 EDT
From bug 111832:
this solution should be available to all data transfer wizards (or UI
interally) so that all wizards can avoid it.

I'm assigning this bug to me since I have fixed this already once (for the
dialog where you create a linked resource).

I thought bug 103540 was related, but now that I have looked at the code and
Boris' validation fix I don't think they are related.

This bug hasn't had any activity in quite some time. Maybe the problem got resolved, was a duplicate of something else, or became less pressing for some reason - or maybe it's still relevant but just hasn't been looked at yet.

If you have further information on the current state of the bug, please add it. The information can be, for example, that the problem still occurs, that you still want the feature, that more information is needed, or that the bug is (for whatever reason) no longer relevant.
