Description Chris Ingham CLA 2005-09-30 17:14:03 EDT
I wanted to start using the Spelling feature, and started with a bare-bones
dictionary file, figuring I could build it up by adding words that were
flagged as misspelled. I can't find a way to do this for read-only files,
since Ctrl+1 asks me if I want to make the file writable.

It'd be really nice to have a Spelling submenu of either Edit or Source and
the Context menu that would include an "add to dictionary" command - ideally
this could be assigned to a shortcut key...

This is actually a bigger issue than just spelling (although I haven't yet run into any other cases):

Any action that doesn't modify the file should be accessible in read-only files without getting the "Read-only File Encountered" message box.

I just wanted to add my "two bits" to say that this would be a very useful feature. To add words to the dictionary file, I current have to manually append the file, sort (and remove any duplicates), then relaunch Eclipse (as it does not recognize "on the fly" updates to the file). There must be a simpler way!

This bug hasn't had any activity in quite some time. Maybe the problem got resolved, was a duplicate of something else, or became less pressing for some reason - or maybe it's still relevant but just hasn't been looked at yet. As such, we're closing this bug.

If you have further information on the current state of the bug, please add it and reopen this bug. The information can be, for example, that the problem still occurs, that you still want the feature, that more information is needed, or that the bug is (for whatever reason) no longer relevant.
