Description jdall CLA 2005-09-15 05:42:40 EDT
My java source contains some lines with

//// some comment ////

When formatting the code, those lines are changed to

// // some comment ////

I can't seem to locate the spot in the formatter preferences where I can
change that behaviour. Please let me know how to.

Thanks,
Jacob Dall

The comment formatter always adds a space after the '//'. I think the comment
formatter should preserve the actual contents of the comment. If there is no
space after the '//', it should not add one. This could however be optional.

Ownership has changed for the formatter, but I surely will not have enough time to fix your bug during the 3.5 development process, hence set its priority to P5.
Please provide a patch if you definitely need the bug to be fixed in this version and I'll have a look at it...
TIA

I would very much like to help out, but I've never had a look at the eclipse source code, nor do I know in what section to look for this bug.

But if you or someone else could point me to where the comment formatting takes place, I believe the fix itself would be quite easy done, using the Olivier Thomann approach.

This problem no longer occurs after the formatter redesign (or maybe earlier, but I'm too lazy to check).
