Whiteboard:

Description Tom Hofmann CLA 2005-08-19 04:35:26 EDT
3.1

Macs usually don't have an INSERT key. We should avoid using it, and replace the
existing bindings with alternatives.

Known problems:

Edit > Copy and Edit > Paste will sometimes show Cmd+Insert Shift+Insert as
shortcuts
-> remove these bindings on the mac and leave Cmd+C and Cmd+V as the only
alternative

Edit > Smart Insert Mode has Cmd + Shift + Insert as the only keybinding - we
should define an alternative on the Mac platform.

André: OK to remove those for the Mac?
Comment 2 Andre Weinand CLA 2005-08-19 09:41:46 EDT
Yes. Since Apple's Human Interface Guidelines don't mention the "Insert" key, I think it's OK to remove all
bindings that are refering to it.

Has to be shifted to 3.3.

But ... there is Insert key on Macs running with PC-style keyboards (Apple's theme: "Bring Your Own Keyboard, Mouse and Screen ... Mac mini is all you need" ). Hitting the Insert key right now (Eclipse 3.1.1 on OS-X Leopard) launches Eclipse on-line help, and there seems to be no way getting around it :-/.

Just to mention, Insert (Help key on native Mac K'brds) key can be re-mapped in XCode.
