Description Lorne Parsons CLA 2005-08-04 18:05:58 EDT
- Load the sample plugin into your development workbench (see attached zip
LPTest.zip)
- Launch runtime workbench with a new workspace
- Switch to resource perspective
- Create at least one project
- Launch File>New>Other
- Go to the Sample Wizards>Multi-page Editor file wizard
- Notice the initial size of the wizard
- Notice the description test is chopped (see attached image -
wizard_launched_from_new_other.jpg)
- Notice that there is scrolling behaviour associated with the description text.
This is useful but will users know this function is present? (see attached image
- showing_scrolling_function.jpg)
- If the user has large fonts enabled the space required for the description is
larger, so a better presentation would be nice
- Cancel wizard
- Launch wizard from Sample Menu > Sample Action
- Notice the initial size of the wizard. This is based on the description but
without any word wrapping. (see attached image - wizard_launched_from_action.jpg)
- Cancel wizard
- Launch Help from Help > Help Contents
- Switch back to workbench
- Launch a wizard CTRL+N will do
- Try to use online help

So to summarize, I believe there are the following oddities with the
wizard/wizard page
- How the initial size of the wizard/wizard page is calculated does not work
well with longer description text.
- The scrolling behaviour is nice but could be presented better.
- Large font sizes should impact how the description should be presentation.
Perhaps addressing the previous points would help this problem as well.
- It is impossible to use help and wizard at the same time

The odd sizing of the dialog launched from the sample action can be worked
around - see bug 82780.

This is 2 or 3 different bugs rolled up into one. I haven't looked at the
other problems yet.

Long error message does not have evident scrolling capabilities

Hi Billy,

Per bug 109342, I was hoping that long error messages would invoke some kind of
scroll bar in the description area of the wizard panel (see red circled area).

Is it possible to add in this capability if it does not already exist?

Thanks!
Comment 8 Billy Biggs CLA 2005-09-19 14:38:08 EDT
The design of the dialog was that there would be only two lines of text
available for error messages, and so messages should be written with
this in mind.

Hi Billy,

That's a fair length cap to put on error messages the wizard. So far, I haven't
had a problem but I just know that when text goes into translation, it ends up a
lot longer than the original (on occasion). I just wanted to see if there was a
fall back plan for verbose error messages. It's still great the way it is though :-)

Thanks!

Addition of TrayDialog in 3.2 addresses the fourth issue.

This bug hasn't had any activity in quite some time. Maybe the problem got resolved, was a duplicate of something else, or became less pressing for some reason - or maybe it's still relevant but just hasn't been looked at yet.

If you have further information on the current state of the bug, please add it. The information can be, for example, that the problem still occurs, that you still want the feature, that more information is needed, or that the bug is (for whatever reason) no longer relevant.
