Bing,
88349 is tied thru duplicates into a whole family of bugs describing a variety
of scenarios. To help us reproduce this, please let us know what JDK you are
running, what level of Tomcat you are targetting, what the initial conditions
of your scenario are (eg. Tomcat stopped or started?) and what steps you are
following.

Rupam,
would you please investigate once we get some clarification from Bing?

Thanks - CB.

JDK1.5.0_04
eclipse 3.1
geronimo-1.0-M3

Just try to follow:
"Build a database-enabled auction Web service"

On Section 4. Building the Web service

Create a Web service from the Java files, part 5
	8. Click Add.
	9. Specify a package/namespace pair of com.ibm.sample.auctionsvr.ws and
	http://www.<YourCompany>.com/auctionsvr/ws.
Presented by developerWorks, your source for great tutorials ibm.com/developerWorks
Build a database-enabled auction Web service Page 19 of 25
10.Click Next, then be patient as files are generated and deployed to Tomcat.

The same bug 88349 comes.

Geronimo for Web service deployment is not yet supported. We'll dig back into
this in WTP 1.0.
Comment 4 Nitin Dahyabhai CLA 2005-11-10 14:17:54 EST
Rupam, is this still a problem with more recent Integration builds?
Comment 5 Rupam Kuehner CLA 2005-11-11 11:11:55 EST
Nitin,
We haven't tested with Geronimo for a while. We'll test and let you know.

I had tried to get Geronimo plugins to work with WTP M9 driver. Using Geronimo plugins and Geronimo server received from Sachin Patel (developer for Geronimo plugin) on 11/18 and with the 11/16 WTP M9 canadidate driver, I was not able to create a Web project targeting Geronimo. I've opened the following Geronimo Development Tools defect for this problem:

http://issues.apache.org/jira/browse/GERONIMODEVTOOLS

We will test with Web service scenario after that bug is fixed.

I tried testing Geronimo Web service again with the following drivers on Windows XP:

- WTP 1.0
- Geronimo 1.0 server
- Geronimo 20060109 plugin

I've opened a few critical problems on the Geronimo development tools:

http://issues.apache.org/jira/browse/GERONIMODEVTOOLS-37
http://issues.apache.org/jira/browse/GERONIMODEVTOOLS-39
http://issues.apache.org/jira/browse/GERONIMODEVTOOLS-40

I was able to create a bottom-up Web service on Geronimo and invoke it using the Web Services Explorer if I first create the server and make sure that the Web project is not on the server but the server is started. I'll update this defect with the test progress once the above defects are solved.

Additional Geronimo Development tools defect opened for cases when the Web project does not exist when going through Web service scenario:

Adding dependency on bug 119237 (adding facet needs to propagate to EAR).
Comment 10 Kathy Chan CLA 2006-01-31 14:25:16 EST
Tried again with WTP M101 20060131_1015 and Geronimo plugin 0130_0958. I can now use the Web services wizard to create and start the Geronimo server. However, there are still problem with programmatically starting a stopped server (see http://issues.apache.org/jira/browse/GERONIMODEVTOOLS-40). There's also a problem with testing using the Sample JSP:

http://issues.apache.org/jira/browse/GERONIMODEVTOOLS-56

Comment 11 Kathy Chan CLA 2006-02-07 14:34:12 EST
I've retested Geronimo Web services using WTP M101 02070438 and Geronimo plugin 0206_1658. The Web services scenario with client and test now runs fine most of the time.

There are still intermitten problem with starting the server
(ttp://issues.apache.org/jira/browse/GERONIMODEVTOOLS-40). We are still trying to nail that one with the Geronimo plugin developer.

I've also opened defect:

http://issues.apache.org/jira/browse/GERONIMODEVTOOLS-62

However, the sample JSP now comes up with the proper URL. That is,
http://issues.apache.org/jira/browse/GERONIMODEVTOOLS-56 had been solved.

Note that you should create the Geronimo Web project in an EAR, otherwise the Web services wizard will create one for it. There's a defect on supporting Geronimo without EAR (bug 119165) but that had been defered to future release.

This change is a bulk update of all _un_targeted, fixed, resolved bugs upon release of M5. This particular bug _might_ have been fixed earlier than M5. (Feel free to correct).

Comment 13 Kathy Chan CLA 2006-06-15 11:08:47 EDT
As we are trying to close down WTP 1.5, please get the latest WTP 1.5 driver to verify the bug and reopen if the problem had not been fixed. If this defect is not verified/reopened by end of day 06/16, I'll attempt to verify the defect by reproducing the problem as described in the defect. However, since you know your scenario best, it would be more appropriate if you verify the fix.

Verified on behalf of submitter (Bing). This was resolved over a year ago. If the problem recurs on WTP 1.5.1, please reopen. Thanks - CB.
